John Edward Anderson (September 12, 1917 — July 29, 2011) was the president and sole stockholder of Topa Equities, Ltd. Anderson manage more than 40 fully owned subsidiary companies in varied sectors including agriculture, automotive car dealers, insurance, property, petroleum, and wholesale drink supply. He made charitable gifts to the University of California, Los Angeles, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, as well as other Southern California educational institutions during his life. Anderson died from pneumonia in the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Anderson was born on September 12, 1917 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the son of a barber. Anderson was the valedictorian of his high school course. He attended UCLA from 1936 to 1940, playing on the ice hockey team and graduating Phi Beta Kappa using a bachelor’s degree in operation administration. While at UCLA, he was an associate of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Then he attended Harvard Business School on scholarship, graduating using a MBA after World War II had broken out. Anderson entered the military on the staff of an admiral, and passed his CPA exam within the Navy. Anderson continued his schooling following the war, earning his JD from Loyola Law School in 1950. He graduated first in his class at Loyola, and was offered a fulltime teaching position.
