Major Elliott Garrett (born August 24, 1962 in San Diego, California) is Chief White House Correspondent with CBS News and Correspondent at Large with the National Journal. Major is his proper name, not indicating a military rank. Prior to joining the National Journal he was the senior White House correspondent for the Fox News Channel. He covered the 2004 presidential election, the War on Terror, and the 2008 presidential election where he covered the Democratic primaries and later Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee.
His wife, Julie Kirtz, is a general assignment reporter for the Fox News Channel in Washington, D.C.

Earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Missouri in 1984. Is a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
