The British charactor actor Laurence Naismith was a Merchant Marine seaman before becoming an actor. He made his London stage debut in 1927 in the chorus of the musical "Oh, Boy." He appeared in two films based on the works of John Wyndham: _Village of the Damned (1960), which was an adaptation of his 1957 novel "The Midwich Cuckoos", and Quest for Love (1971), which was an adaptation of his 1961 short story "Random Quest".
The acting gene was passed along to his grandson Woody Naismith. Woody's an up and coming actor living in LA.
