While living in Washington state and having never worked professionally as an actress, Paz made an impromptu decision to audition in an open call for a Canadian production of the musical Miss Saigon. Upon being cast in the chorus of the First National Tour production, she quickly moved up to the lead role of Kim. She went on to originate the role in the celebrated Los Angeles run of the show.
