French photographer and painter. His father was a wealthy financier and amateur photographer who gave Jacques-Henri a camera when he was a little boy. His photographs show great liveliness, as he was one of the first to capture movement via stills; he took pictures of people playing tennis, riding in carriages, and the like. Lartigue is best known for his photos of automobiles. In the 1920s, he turned his attention to painting, and his photographs were forgotten until the Museum of Modern Art launched an exhibition in 1963, and Lartigue became famous for them.
