Trey Anastasio is a founding member of the rock band Phish, functioning as lead guitarist and vocalist since their beginning. Phish are noticed for their musical improvisation, drawn-out jams, investigation of a wide array of genres, and first live performances. Formed in the University of Vermont in 1983 (with the current line up solidifying in 1985), the group contains — bassist and vocalist Mike Gordon, percussionist, hoover musician, and vocalist Jon Fishman, and keyboardist and vocalist Page McConnell. Phish performed together for more than 20 years, releasing 10 studio albums, before breaking up in August 2004. They reunited in March 2009 to get a accompanying tour, has released a reunion record Pleasure and have since resumed performing consistently.

Quote
1
[on Genesis] Rebellious, restless and constantly striving for something more. Every musical rule and boundary was questioned and broken. It's impossible to overstate what impact this band and musical philosophy had on me as a young musician. I'm forever in their debt.
