Julian Schnabel Bio/Wiki, Net Worth, Married 2018

Julian Schnabel (created October 26, 1951) is an American artist and filmmaker. In the 1980s, Schnabel received international media attention for his “plate paintings”—large scale paintings place on broken ceramic plates. Schnabel directed “Before Night Falls”, which became Javier Bardem’s breakthrough Academy Award-nominated character, and “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”, that has been nominated for four Academy Awards. He’s won the award for the best director in the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, a Golden Globe, along with BAFTA, a Oscar Award, two nominations for the Golden Lion and an Academy Award nomination.

It was with his first solo show, at the Mary Boone Gallery in 1979, nevertheless, that Schnabel would actually come to be thought of as an important new power in the art world. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1980, and from the mid-1980s had become an important figure in the Neo expressionism movement. From the time he displayed his work in a show together formed by Boone and Leo Castelli in 1981, he’d become firmly established. His now famous “plate paintings”—large scale paintings place on broken ceramic plates—received a boisterous and critical reception from the art world. A name for making brash pronouncements about his value to the art world – I am the closest thing to Picasso which you’ll see in this fucking life – engendered disregard from both co-workers as well as the viewing public. Schnabel is now represented by The Pace Gallery in NYC. Schnabel’s signature works include an underlying edge of violence, while staying suffused with compositional energy. Schnabel maintains that he is aiming at an emotional state, a state that individuals can literally walk into and be engulfed. Additionally well-known are his works dedicated to folks like Antonio Molina or Paolo Malfi. In spite of the fact making The Diving Bell and the Butterfly might appear to be a commission to do someone else’s work, Schnabel took on the picture.
