John Willard “Bill” Marriott, Jr. (born March 25, 1932) is an American businessman who’s the Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Marriott International. Marriott is the son of Alice and J. Willard Marriott, the creator of Marriott International. He served on an aircraft carrier as an officer in the United States Navy Supply Corps.[1] He’s likewise an Eagle Scout and recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. Marriott has described how he learned a lifelong direction lesson from an offhand comment created by President Dwight D. Eisenhower when he and his wife, Mamie, were guests at the house of Marriott’s dad in 1954. When Eisenhower was given the choice to either go outside and shoot quail in the chilly or stand by the fire, he turned to 22-year old Bill Marriott and just asked, “What does one believe we should do?” Says Marriott, “So I attempted to embrace that type of direction as I advanced in life by requesting my folks, ‘What would you believe?’… During his tenure at Marriott, Bill introduced the practice of Revenue Management to the resort business. He serves as chairman of the President’s Export Council, a group that advises the President on issues regarding export commerce, and serves as chairman of the Leadership Council of the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries.
