Richard John "Ricky" Hatton, MBE (born 6 October 1978) is an English former professional boxer who is also a boxing promoter.He is a former WBA (Super), IBF, IBO and The Ring Light Welterweight Champion, and WBA Welterweight Champion. After losing his last fight to Manny Pacquiao, Hatton put his career on a long hiatus, with rumours of a comeback circulating the media. However, on 7 July 2011, Hatton announced his retirement from boxing. On 14 September 2012, more than three years after his last fight, Hatton confirmed his comeback to professional boxing; after losing his first match on 24 November 2012, he announced his final retirement.

Is a die hard Manchester City F.C fan and often goes to games when not training for upcoming fights. His grandfather and father both played for City but Ricky decided to follow boxing rather than follow in his father's and grandfather's footsteps.

Is good friends with Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney. Rooney carried one of Hatton's titles out to the ring during Hatton's bout with Jose Luis Castillo, this received a negative reaction from many City fans as it was seen to be "mixing with the enemy".

He was awarded the M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2007 Queen's New Years Honors List for his services to Boxing.
