Patrick "Putter" Smith (born January 19, 1941) is an American jazz bassist, recording artist, music teacher, author, and actor.Smith is perhaps best known for his movie role as assassin, Mr. Kidd, played alongside Mr. Wint (Bruce Glover), in the 1971 James Bond movie, Diamonds Are Forever, starring Sean Connery as 007.A professional jazz bassist, Smith has appeared on numerous releases throughout his career including the 1975 Pat Britt album entitled Jazzman (Vee-Jay International) and the 1987 Alan Broadbent Trio album entitled Another Time (Trend Records).Smith has also authored various jazz-related instructional books including 2000's Improvising Handbook for Double Bass and Bass Clef Instruments (Ludwin Music) and 2011's Jazz Bass Improvisation: A Guide to Chords, Scales, Arpeggios & Other Concepts and Techniques for the Advancing Bassist (Musicians Institute Press).
