Michael Franklin Corbin (April 29, 1955 – March 18, 2008) was an investigative journalist, researcher, and radio talk show host who resided in Denver, Colorado. Corbin was the director of the ParaNet Information Service and operated the ParaNet Bulletin Board System (BBS). ParaNet was founded by ufologist Jim Speiser and its former director from 1986-1988 [1]. ParaNet's roots are with a previous BBS run by Speiser called "The Other Side" [2].Corbin brought ParaNet to the Internet and branched out in organizing MICAP (Multi-National Investigations Cooperative on Aerial Phenomena [3]). MICAP published CONTINUUM, a quarterly magazine that among other subjects, explored alien abductions [4], UFO culture, the paranormal, mysticism, mind control, and conspiracy theory. MICAP was one of the first aerial phenomenon organizations to utilize J. Allen Hynek's close encounter system proposed in 1972 and Jacques Vallee's classification of UFO anomalies as reported in his book Confrontations (Ballantine Books, 1990)[5]. MICAP sponsored the 1992 debate between Don Ecker and UFO skeptic Philip J. Klass [6] held in Denver. Corbin was also the list manager for several Usenet groups, such as alt.paranet.ufo.Corbin hosted the nationally syndicated talk show The Paranet Continuum, which aired every Sunday night from 1994 to 1999, and intermittently to 2002. ParaNet Continuum guests included Walter Bowart, Walter Haut, L. Fletcher Prouty, Victor Marchetti, Alex Constantine, and Betty Hill, Whitley Strieber, and Travis Walton. Father Malachi Martin became a frequent guest on the show starting in July, 1996 [7]. Corbin was a vocal critic of Heaven's Gate [8] coverage by fellow investigators [9]. From 2002 until his death in 2008, Corbin hosted the syndicated talk show A Closer Look (ACL). Through ACL, Corbin examined subjects ranging from Satanic cults, mind control, child prostitution and abduction, especially the Johnny Gosch case, the Franklin coverup, educational reform, illegal immigration, constitutional rights, and the events surrounding the September 11 attacks. Among ACL guests were journalist Gary Webb, author of The Third Terrorist, Russ Kick, Daniel Ellsberg, G. Edward Griffin, and T.J. Bonner [10].On March 18, 2008, Corbin died in Denver from complications of a stroke [11] and buried April 7, 2008 in Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery (Section 30-61-7, unmarked) located in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
