Richard William “Rick” Wright (28 July 1943– 15 September 2008) was an English musician, composer, vocalist and songwriter, famous for his profession with Pink Floyd. A multi instrumentalist, Wright’s richly textured keyboard layers were a critical part and a distinguishing feature of Pink Floyd’s sound.
Wright recorded his first solo endeavor, Wet Dream, that was released in September 1978 with minimal commercial success. Richard William was kept as a salaried session musician through the live concerts to promote that record in 1980–81. Wright became the only member of Pink Floyd to benefit in the first run of the dearly-won Wall shows, because the net financial loss needed to be endured by the three remaining “full time” members. Wright failed to attend the 1982 premier of the movie version of Pink Floyd—The Wall. In 1983, Pink Floyd released The Final Cut, the sole record in the group on which Wright will not appear.
