Jordi Savall i Bernadet (Catalan: [???rði s???a? i ??rn??ð?t]; born August 1,1941) is a Spanish viol player, conductor and composer from Catalonia. He has been one of the major figures in the field of Western early music since the 1970s, largely responsible for bringing instruments of the viol family (most notably the viola da gamba) back to life on the stage. His characteristic repertory emphasizes medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music, although he has occasionally ventured into the Classical and even the Romantic periods.
Jordi has made more than 100 recordings and have won several distinctions; In 1988 the French Minister of Culture appointed him Officer of "Ordre les Arts et des Lettres" and in 1990 he was awarded the "Creu the Sant Jordi" by the Generalitat of Catalunya

In 1989 Jordi created the baroque orchestra Le Consert des Nations.

In the mid 80's he founded La Capella Reial de Catalunya, an ensamble who is dedicated to the interpretation of pre 1900:th century vocal music.

In 1974 Jordi, his wife and other musicians started the ensemble Hesp?rion XX, wich brought him to be a forefront in the interpretation of medival, Renaissanse and baroque music.
