Dan Dotson is an American auctioneer that continues to be in the auctioneering company since 1974. Dan and his wife, Laura Dotson, run American Auctioneers, a full-service auction business in Riverside, California.
Dotson became comfortable with auctioneering, having been around the business since 1974. His grandpa, Sam Fancher, was a cows and farm auctioneer in the Ozark Mountains area of northwest Arkansas. In the age of 11, Dotson was instructed to auctioneer by his grandfather, with whom he worked as an auctioneer throughout the following four summers when he had not been in school. Dotson began American Auctioneers in 1983. In 1996 Dotson met Laura, who afterwards became his wife. Laura additionally became Dan’s company associate, and now is co-owner and supervisor of American Auctioneers. American Auctioneers now specializes in auctions of storage units, estates, business inventories, and gear, additionally legal/foreclosure auctions, fundraisers, and assessments. Dotson averages two auctions a day, six days per week. Typically, Dan acts as the auctioneer and Laura as the ringman, but these parts are sometimes turned (frequently at Laura’s request). Dan’s auction chant on the show utilizes slurred mulch-syllabic filler rattled out quite fast, while Laura’s auction chant uses more different filler words and for that reason seems slower than her husband’s. Dotson is also co-originator of and chief adviser to Storage Treasures, an internet portal focusing on supplying self storage auction listings throughout America and Canada. On June 16, 2014, Dan Dotson endured from a double aneurysm. He woke up at 1:30 AM inquiring “strange questions” in his slumber. He went back to sleep and awakened to have a shower. He fell and his wife Laura dialed 911. It’s reported that she was given directions in the 911 operator on the best way to administer CPR. Dotson got surgery to mend the damage.
