Ace Young (born November 15, 1980) is an American singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, and performer. He got national recognition while appearing on the fifth season of “American Idol”. Young is married to “American Idol” season-three runner up Diana DeGarmo.
After over four years in Los Angeles with no record deal, Ace Young auditioned for American Idol in Denver, Colorado. Young was introduced as Brett Young, using the name “Ace” indicated in quotes. Afterwards, he told producers he preferred to be called Ace and he had not been referred to as Brett to the show again. He also performed Michael Jackson’s tune, “Butterflies.” The week that featured the music of Queen as well as the remaining members of the group as mentors, there was a short controversy. American Idol’s editing of Young’s pre-performance package made it seem as if he’d piqued Brian May as well as the remaining part of the group by proposing an alteration in the organization of “We Will Rock You.” May came to Young’s defense several days after when he composed a website clarifying he and the group felt their mentoring session proved to be a productive exchange of ideas for the musical arrangement of the tune. Young sang “That Is All.” Ace Young shifted his appearance with this performance, slicking his hair back and dressing up in a suit and tie.
