Kim Christian Beazley AC (born 14 December 1948) is an Australian diplomat and former politician. He is currently the Australian Ambassador to the United States. Beazley had previously served in the Australian House of Representatives from 1980 to 2007. He was the Leader of the Labor Party and Leader of the Opposition from 1996 to 2001 and again from 2005 to 2006. He led Labor through the 1998 and 2001 elections, both of which he lost. He was also a minister under both Bob Hawke and Paul Keating, most notably becoming Deputy Prime Minister under Keating from 1995 to 1996. He retired from Parliament at the 2007 election, having lost the leadership of the Labor Party to Kevin Rudd after a 2006 challenge.
He was awarded the A.C. (Companion of the Order of Australia) in the 2009 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to the Parliament of Australia through contributions to the development of government policies in relation to defense and international relations, as an advocate for Indigenous people, and to the community.
