1First worked at Metro, 1922-1923. Subsequently spent his entire career at MGM, 1924-1941. He was known to be an alcoholic and this contributed to his early death in 1941, aged just 49. The noted tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh (1927-1987) was his son.
