Max Obal was born on September 4, 1881 in Brieg, Silesia, Germany [now Brzeg, Opolskie, Poland]. He was a director and writer, known for Der größte Gauner des Jahrhunderts (1927), Tempo! Tempo! (1929) and Laubenkolonie (1930). He died on May 18, 1949 in Wilmersdorf, Berlin, Germany.
After a so-called bourgeois education for optic and fine mechanics Max Obal turned towards acting and he got acting lessons at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg.

At the age of 20 he made his artistic debut as a chorus singer in Hamburg and at this time he already used his pseudonym Max Obal.
