Darren Walker is a humanitarian and tenth president of the Ford Foundation. He is a social justice, good governance, excluded groups, humanities, poverty reduction, mentorship and public education advocate; as well as a philanthropy, law, nonprofit, servant leadership, communications, human welfare, international affairs, housing, human rights, urban improvement, democracy building and community development expert. In humane solidarity for the safe return of the Chibok Girls, Walker, while visiting Abuja on Friday 16 May 2014 "for meetings to discuss the problems and prospect for the girl child in Nigeria and West Africa," declared that the "Chibok girls are Nigerians but they belong to the world."Earlier in his career, Walker served as a banking professional. He chaired the 2013 Gish Prize selection Committee; noting that Spike Lee got the Prize "for his brilliance and unwavering courage in using film to challenge conventional thinking." He served on New York City Mayor: Bill de Blasio's November 2013 announced Transition Advisory Team, leading an assortment of seasoned and valuable nonprofit, public affairs, civic life, business, labor, science, arts, grassroots, advocacy, academy and philanthropy professionals plus experts named to the committee. On 3 May, Walker gave a 2014 commencement address at Miami Dade College - the largest and most diverse college in the United States, with seven campuses, two centers and more than 165,000 students from across the world.Walker was appointed Ford Foundation president on Wednesday 24 July 2013 by the Irene Hirano Inouye led board of the Foundation.
