Richard John “Ricky” Hatton, MBE (born 6 October 1978) is an English former professional fighter who’s also a boxing promoter. He’s a former WBA (Super), IBF, IBO and “The Ring” Light Welterweight Champ, and WBA Welterweight Champ. After losing his last fight to Manny Pacquiao, Hatton set his career on an extended hiatus, with rumors of a recovery circulating the media. Yet, on 7 July 2011, Hatton declared his retirement from boxing.
Hatton had a brief amateur career, where he won seven British titles and represented his state in the 1996 World Junior Boxing Championships. His removal in the semifinals caused controversy. Four of the five judges granted the competition to Hatton, but under the scoring rules Hatton was conquered as the fifth judge gave the match to Hatton’s adversary by 16 points. The judge was afterwards discovered to get taken a bribe, and disillusioned with all the recreational governing bodies, Hatton turned professional, aged 18. Hatton was based at Billy “The Preacher” Graham’s fitness center in Moss Side, where fellow fighters contained Carl Thompson and Michael Gomez. In 1999 the British Boxing Writers’ Club named Hatton their Young Fighter of the Year. His first international title came in May 1999, when he got the better of Dillon Carew for the WBO intercontinental light welterweight title. Hatton’s next four fights after obtaining the WBO intercontinental belt were all won within four rounds. Then he developed the World Boxing Association (WBA) intercontinental title carrying out a unification fight against Giuseppe Lauri. Despite enduring a wound over his left eye in the initial round, Hatton continued for the full 12 rounds and won on points, the very first time in his career he were taken beyond six rounds. As the cut was his fourth above an identical eye, Hatton had plastic surgery on his eyebrow that November, with a view to some world title shot in the springtime. Hatton claimed the vacant World Boxing Union (WBU) light welterweight title in March 2001, having sent rival Tony Pep to the canvas three times along the way.
He lives in Greater Manchester area of England. [December 2006]

Welterweight boxer, and older brother of fellow boxer Matthew Hatton.

Is a die hard Manchester City F.C fan and often goes to games when not training for upcoming fights. His grandfather and father both played for City but Ricky decided to follow boxing rather than follow in his father's and grandfather's footsteps.
5
Is good friends with Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney. Rooney carried one of Hatton's titles out to the ring during Hatton's bout with Jose Luis Castillo, this received a negative reaction from many City fans as it was seen to be "mixing with the enemy".
6
He was awarded the M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2007 Queen's New Years Honors List for his services to Boxing.
