Ty Monroe Murray (born October 11, 1969) is an American nine-time World Champion rodeo cowboy and cofounder and board advisor of the Professional Bull Riders. After tearing his posterior cruciate ligaments, first in his right knee and afterwards in his left, Murray had both knees re-built in 1995. He was out of rodeo to get a year. Throughout that time he purchased a 2,400 acre (8 km) ranch in Stephenville, Texas. Operation laid him away for another year, costing him a leading patron. Following a total of three years away, Murray came back in 1998 to win the PRCA All Around Tournament for the record seventh time, along with his second PRCA World Champion Bull Rider title. In 1999 Murray met singer/songwriter Jewel Kilcher, whose dad had been an Alaska All-Around Rodeo Victor, and they became a couple. Both wed in 2008 on a beach in the Bahamas. Murray joined the PBR full time in 2000 (after splitting his time between the PBR and PRCA in the years prior). He and Jewel composed the tune “Til We Run Out of Road” about Murray and Cody Lambert. Jewel additionally mentioned him, though not by name, in her tune “Stephenville, TX”. She appears with him in among the “Man Law” advertisements. On July 11, 2011 Jewel gave birth to their own son, Kase Townes Murray.
