Vernon Forrest, nicknamed "The Viper", (January 12, 1971 – July 25, 2009) was an American professional boxer who became a world champion in the welterweight and light middleweight divisions. In his career, he achieved three victories over Shane Mosley (once as an amateur and twice as a professional) and was upset twice by Ricardo Mayorga.In 2009, Forrest was murdered after he was robbed at a gas station in Mechanicsville, Georgia.
Member of the 1992 Olympic team, former IBF welterweight and two-time WBC junior middleweight champion. First boxer to defeat Sugar Shane Mosley.

Helped launch the Destiny's Child group homes in Atlanta, which work to provide homes for the mentally disabled.

In an 26 July 2009 e-mail to the media, Police Sgt. Lisa Keyes said that Forrest was shot "multiple times in the back" in an apparent robbery, and that there are no suspects.
