Father of Alexander Crownprince of Yugoslavia, he became king at age 11 after the assassination of his father, Alexander I. When he refused to ally with Adolf Hitler, Germany invaded Yugoslavia, forcing Peter into exile; communists seized control of the country after the War. On 4 March 2007, Alexander announced plans to move his father's remains to Belgrade. He is the only foreign monarch to be buried in the US.
