King Peter II of Yugoslavia was born on September 6, 1923 in Belgrade, Serbia, Yugoslavia as Petar Karadjordjevic. He was married to Princess Alexandra of Greece and Denmark. He died on November 3, 1970 in Denver, Colorado, USA.
Father of Alexander Crownprince of Yugoslavia, he became king at age 11 after the assassination of his father, Alexander I. When he refused to ally with Adolf Hitler, Germany invaded Yugoslavia, forcing Peter into exile; communists seized control of the country after the War. On 4 March 2007, Alexander announced plans to move his father's remains to Belgrade. He is the only foreign monarch to be buried in the US.
