Following his NFL career, Richardson embarked on a fruitful business career. Richardson used his 1959 NFL tournament bonus together with assistance from Charles Bradshaw to start the initial Hardee’s Franchise in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The two ended up possessing the Hardee’s company 50/50. The company expanded quickly, under his hands on management style. From headquarters in Spartanburg, he co-founded Spartan Foods which was the initial franchisee of Hardee’s. Richardson is the sole individual to be inducted into the North Carolina and South Carolina Company and Athletic Halls of Fame.
