In 2014, her uncle Peter Skala was Knighted by the French government and awarded France's highest order, the National Order of the Legion of Honor. He received the distinction (and medal) of "Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur" for his valor and heroism during World War II leading to the liberation of France at a ceremony conducted by the French Ambassador in London.
