When his father, actor George Holland, died in 1870, the rector of his church refused to read the service after he discovered Holland had been an actor. The rector told the family that there was a little church around the corner that would bury actors. From then on, the Church of the Incarnation in New York City became known as "The Little Church Around the Corner".
