His work for gay rights, his Out 100 status and his year after year successes have made him a "Superstar in the GLBT community." He first worked professionally as an actor in "Lisbon Traviata" in Los Angeles in 2003. He was introduced to the global TV community when he starred as "Ty" in "Sordid Lives: The Series." He later released three records in the United States, all three ("Party Round the World", "Pop It" and "It's Our Night") going Top 25 on Billboard. "Pop It" was a Top 10 UK smash hit, and "It's Our Night" was a Top 20 UK Pop summer hit. He was a member of 2008's Out 100 Most Influential People in GLBT culture.In 2010, Dottley produced "Yellow" at the Coast Playhouse in West Hollywoood which won him the LA Drama Critic's Circle Award for Best World Premiere Play.Jason Dottley married playwright Del Shores in 2003 and they divorced in 2013.After his divorce from Del Shores, Dottley dated famed Israeli journalist Itay Hod about whom he wrote his record "It's Our Night".
In 2016, Dottley co-wrote and co-directed for the first for his digital series "Body Hair." Teaming up with best friend Tia Morris, Dottley and Morris co-created, co-wrote, co-directed and co-starred together in this "Must see comedy! (Gloss Magazine).

In 2015, Dottley starred in his first one-man show "Life on the Gay-List" which he toured the United States with to rave reviews. "Comedy Pick of the Week!" in the Boston Globe, "Best Bet" Dallas Voice. Dottley resumes the show a year later in 2017 during which time he plans to film the show for a comedy special.

In 2015, Dottley released his single "Cocaine and Whiskey" and the video for it has set the world record for the most expensive collection of exotic cars ever in one video, with over $25 Million dollars worth of cars in his motorcade. Dottley shut down world famous Rodeo Drive while filming the video with drag superstar Pandora Boxx.
