John Varvatos is an American modern menswear designer. The Varvatos family is originally in the hamlet of Poulata to the Greek island of Cefalonia. He attended Allen Park High School. Varvatos joined Polo Ralph Lauren in 1983. Then he moved on to Calvin Klein in 1990 where he was named head of menswear design and manage the start of the men’s range as well as the cK brand. During his time at Calvin Klein, Varvatos initiated a form of men’s undergarment called boxer briefs, a amalgam of boxer shorts and briefs. Made famous with a show of 1992 print advertisements featuring Mark Wahlberg, they happen to be called “among the best clothes revolutions of the century.” Of their development Varvatos said in 2010, “We simply cut off some of long johns and believed, this might be trendy…”. In the year 2012, Varvatos joined the cast of star mentors on NBC’s Fashion Star, a reality competition show that sought for another big brand in vogue. In 2013, Varvatos viewed the launch of a limited edition Chrysler 300 in his name. Varvatos credits his early fixation with rock ‘n’ roll as the trigger because of his fascination with vogue. Music can also be essential to the brand’s philanthropic efforts, including the Save the Music Foundation and an yearly Stuart House benefit. Remarking, Varvatos said, “Both inner peace and global peace are extremely significant matters to me”.
