Bruno Leopoldo Francesco Sammartino (born October 6, 1935) is an Italian-born American retired professional wrestler. He is best known for his work with WWE, where he held the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship for over 11 years (4040 days) across two reigns, the first of which is the longest single reign in the promotion's history (2803 days).Sammartino's wrestling style was more mat-oriented which was typical of wrestlers from his era. His brawling, power moves, and personal charisma helped him become the most popular American wrestler in the 1960s through the mid 1980s. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 6, 2013 by his longtime friend, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

1Although that there is no denying that Bruno was and is one of the strongest men to have entered the Pro Wrestling Game, he was not the runner-up to Paul Anderson at the 1956 U.S. Weightlifting Olympic tryouts. He didn't even compete there. The 2nd Place finish in the Heavyweight (unlimited) Division was Lee Phillips. But no one denied Sammartino's preeminence in the Powerlifts of the Squat (full), the Deadlift and especially the Bench Press; in which he was universally acknowledged as the best in the World, with unofficial lifts that approached 600 lbs. in the mid 1950's.
