Dieter Dengler was born on May 22, 1938 in Wildberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. He was married to Yukiko Ichihashi, Irene Lam and Marina Adamich. He died on February 7, 2001 in Mill Valley, California, USA.
On January 30, 1967, he appeared on I've Got a Secret (1952). His secret, as told to host Steve Allen, was that he had escaped from a POW camp in Laos. During his appearance, both of his hands were wrapped in large bandages or casts, and he explained that he had cut his tendons by falling through a sheet of plate glass.
