David Jonathan Heyman (created 26 July 1961) is an English film producer as well as the creator of Heyday Films. In 1999, Heyman secured the film rights to the “Harry Potter” film series and went on to make all eight episodes, becoming the main person in the team to participate in most of the pictures.
Heyman was born in London, England. He’s the son of John Heyman, producer of movies including The Go-Between and Jesus, and Norma Heyman (ne Parnell), an actress and Oscar-nominated producer of Dangerous Liaisons and Mrs Henderson Presents. His paternal grandparents were German Jews who left Nazi Germany and emigrated to England before WWII, while his mom’s family was English. He went to Westminster School, London, and following graduation he chose to study abroad, earning a diploma in Art History from Harvard University in the U.S. in 1983. In 1997, Heyman returned to London and founded his own production firm, Heyday Films. He’s since produced several movies such as the most popular Harry Potter film adaptations, beginning with 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and finishing with 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2. Other famous creations in this time range from the 2007 hit I’m Legend as well as the 2008 movies The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Is Anybody There?, and Yes Man.
