Weinberg grew up in suburban New Jersey and started drumming for a very young age. His strong but restricted playing on records including “Born to Run” and “Born in the U.S.A.” stabilized the E Street Band sound and Weinberg became a mainstay of Springsteen’s long concert performances. Springsteen broken up the group in 1989 and Weinberg spent several years contemplating a law career and attempting the business end of the music sector before deciding he wished to continue with drumming. Weinberg’s drums-driven jump blues sound and his function as a comic foil prospered combined with the show, giving him a second profession. In 1999, Springsteen reformed the E Street Band to get a number of tours and records; Weinberg worked out an arrangement that enabled him to play with both O’Brien and Springsteen. In 2009, Weinberg moved to the short lived “Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” as leader of Max Weinberg and The Tonight Show Band. After that ended, he formed and toured using a fresh ensemble, the Max Weinberg Big Band, as well as in 2010 chose to not follow O’Brien to the new “Conan” show. In 2014, Weinberg was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an associate of the E Street Band.
He and the E Street Band (including Steve Van Zandt, Garry Tallent, Vini Lopez, David Sancious, Roy Bittan, Nils Lofgren, Patti Scialfa, Ernest "Boom" Carter, the late Clarence Clemons, and the late Danny Federici) were inducted into the 2012 New Jersey Hall of Fame for their services and contributions to music.
