Joseph “Joe” Satriani (created July 15, 1956) is an American instrumental rock guitarist, multi instrumentalist and multiple Grammy Award nominee. Early in his career, Satriani worked as a guitar teacher, with a number of his former pupils attaining recognition, like: Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan and Alex Skolnick.
In 1994, Satriani toured with Deep Purple as the lead guitarist. He’s worked using a variety of guitarists during the G3 tour, which he founded in 1995. He’s now the lead guitarist for the supergroup Chickenfoot. Since 1988, Satriani has been using his own touch guitars, the Ibanez JS Series, which can be bought in music stores worldwide. He’s got also collaborated with Vox to make his own wah, delay, overdrive and distortion pedals including a cooperation with Marshall Amplification for the development of his own touch collection amplifier mind, the JVM410HJS.
Satriani began playing in a San Francisco-based group called the Squares, where he continued to network and also make musical links (Squares sound man John Cuniberti co-created his second record).

Quote
1
[on giving autographs] I've signed the obvious things - body parts of every kind, just about. Women get their breast tattooed when I've signed them, bald guys have their heads tattooed with my signature. We've had a lot of leg signatures, just about every article of clothing. I think the weirdest was I signed a birth certificate for a young kid whose parents had named him 'Satriani'. He'll be wondering why he's called Satriani and not Dave or something.

I'm always focusing on melody and unique harmonies, and I try to bring in people who will enhance the rhythmic approach.
3
Radiohead - man, I like that band but they depress me sometimes.
4
Some of us are going to play faster than others. Hitting the right notes and getting your technique right is so much more important than speed.
5
Allan Holdsworth is a true living legend in my book because of what he did melodically and harmonically, and just in the pantheon of rock guitarists.
