Matt Mays (born August 10, 1979) is a Canadian indie rock singer-songwriter and was the lead singer of Matt Mays & El Torpedo, a rock music group based in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia and New York City. Previously, Mays was a member of a Canadian indie band The Guthries. Mays was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and grew up in Nova Scotia.
I'm not good at adding lyrics to music or music to lyrics. If I do it sounds contrived. That's why the process for me is difficult. it has to come all at the same time. It's tricky because you have to let it come to you. I can't just sit down and decide to write a song.

[on touring with Kid Rock] He used to watch every show we played, by the side of the stage with his hood up. I would never walk up on his catwalk, but one day he asked me why I didn't. Well, because it's your catwalk! But after he said that, every night I'd go out a little more, and by the end of the tour I was way down at the end of it. Ad he had a lot of good advice on how to get comfortable, and how to project to 17,000 people you can't see. I have massive respect for the guy.
