Eric Andersen (born February 14, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter, who has written songs recorded by Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, Grateful Dead & many others. Early in his career, in the 1960s, he was part of the Greenwich Village folk scene. After two decades & sixteen albums of solo performance he became a member of the supergroup Danko/Fjeld/Andersen. Since the late 1990s, he has resumed his solo career. Andersen is still recording & performing live in Europe, Japan and North America.
Songwriter Tom Paxton discovered him in fall 1963, performing at the Coffee Gallery. He moved to New York City and was introduced to the Greenwich Village songwriting circle of Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan.

After two years as a pre-med major, he hitchhiked to San Francisco to sing songs in coffee houses and seek out the poets of the Beat Generation. He met Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Neal Cassady at City Lights Bookstore.
