Antonio Raimundo "Tony" Montana is a fictional character and the protagonist of the 1983 film Scarface. He is portrayed by Al Pacino in the movie, and is voiced by André Sogliuzzo in the 2006 video game Scarface: The World Is Yours. Tony Montana has become a cultural icon and is one of the most famous movie characters of all time. In 2008, Montana was named the 27th Greatest Movie Character by Empire Magazine. He is partly based on Tony Camonte, the main character of the 1932 movie of the same name. According to Oliver Stone, Tony's last name was inspired by former NFL quarterback, Joe Montana, Stone's favorite player. A prequel novel, Scarface: The Beginning, written by L.A. Banks, was released in 2006.

Million-Dollar Row is for what they call a flyaway risk inmates - Colombians, drug cartel. They have you in tiny cells with one other person. They monitor you 24 fucking hours a day. You spit on the floor, they'll know. If you play with yourself, they'll give you more time someplace else. All that bullshit you hear about jail about dropping your soap in the shower, that's so much bullshit. You look at another person the wrong way in a shower, somebody's going to knock you the fuck out. I was in there for kidnapping. I was arrested for kidnapping, ransom. I used to hang out with the wrong people. I'll take the fifth on all that. I've been acquitted for everything I've been arrested for. I had a $20-million bail. I couldn't afford to get out so I had to stay in jail. How was I going to bail out at 20 million? I needed $200,000 plus $18 million in property. I didn't have any of that. I sat there for 27 months until I was proved not guilty. Ron Miller was my preliminary hearing attorney. Because of him I got out."

[on hearing that he tested HIV positive] "I was sitting in [porn agent] Jim South's office when the news came in that it was definitely positive. It was just a weird feeling . . . but it wasn't like I hit the floor or suffered great depression. I've never been one to take things too hard, but at the same time I just sort of sat there in a daze and thought, wow, out of all the people, it had to be me. But I guess thats life."

[on getting HIV and the effect it made on his career] "Basically, the calls just stopped. People wouldn't return my calls, and when they did call it was to nervously ask me where I think I might have got it. I have no idea where I contracted it, nor do I care to speculate. The odds of what can happen ended up happening to me . . . It's a crap shoot and I lost. It's one of those things."
