4The success of his melodramatic play "The Etruscan Fathers" led to a script-writing job with Lux, the largest film company in Rome. At Lux, he met another scriptwriter, Federico Fellini. They had completely different personalities and backgrounds, but quickly became friends, and went on to collaborate on several of Fellini's own films.
5Born of a noble family, after having been a cavalry officer and a lawyer he followed his taste for theater and wrote about a dozen stage dramas. At the age of 90 became a novelist too, writing "La casa di Robespierre" (= "Robespierre's home")
