Thomas Hardy was born on June 2, 1840 in Upper Bockhampton, Dorset, England. He was a writer, known for Tess (1979), Jude (1996) and Far from the Madding Crowd (2015). He was married to Florence Emily Dugdale and Emma Lavinia Gifford. He died on January 11, 1928 in Dorchester, Dorset.
British poet and novelist of the country genre (all set in Wessex), a master at regional dialect. He was initially trained as an architect and turned to full-time writing in 1867. He was a pessimist, taking a fairly grim view of life, often focusing on unhappiness, failure and unrequited love or passion.
