Alan Burgess was an English author who wrote several biographical and non fiction books in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. He wrote The Small Woman (1957), the story of Gladys Aylward, The Longest Tunnel: the true story of World War II's great escape, Seven Men at Daybreak (1960) about Operation Anthropoid, The Lovely Sergeant (1963) about Flora Sandes, Daylight Must Come: The story of a courageous woman doctor in the Congo, a travelogue entitled No Risk - No Romance, and a novel, The Word for Love (1970). He also helped write Ingrid Bergman's autobiography Ingrid Bergman: My Story (1972). Bergman played Gladys Aylward in the film The Inn of the Sixth Happiness based on Burgess's biography.
