He wrote The Small Woman (1957), the story of Gladys Aylward, The Longest Tunnel: the true story of World War II's great escape, Seven Men at Daybreak (1960) about Operation Anthropoid, The Lovely Sergeant (1963) about Flora Sandes, Daylight Must Come: The story of a courageous woman doctor in the Congo, a travelogue entitled No Risk - No Romance, and a novel, The Word for Love (1970). He also helped write Ingrid Bergman's autobiography Ingrid Bergman: My Story (1972).
