3
In 1952, Webb landed the role of "Captain Midnight" in the TV series of the same name, Captain Midnight (1954), earning the hero worship of kids everywhere -- and the animosity of the "Captain Midnight" producers when he refused to drink the sponsor's product, Ovaltine, in public because he hated the taste.
4
He and wife Florence had two daughters: Richelle and Patricia.
5
Wrote books about psychic phenomena and the occult including "Great Ghosts of the West," "These Came Back" and "Flight Without Wings."
6
Left a suicide note when the actor who suffered from failing health shot himself in his Van Nuys, CA home.
7
He committed suicide after suffering a long-term, debilitating respiratory illness.
8
His most recognized role was as the star of the 1950s TV series Captain Midnight (1954), based on the long-running radio program of the same name. His young fans could join his "Secret Squadron" and receive decoder rings and other premiums from Ovaltine and other show sponsors.
