Raymond Poulidor (born 15 April 1936), is a former professional bicycle racer. He was known as the eternal second, because he finished the Tour de France in second place five times, and in third place three times, including his final Tour at the age of 40. Despite his consistency, he never wore the Yellow Jersey in 14 Tours, of which he completed 12.His career was distinguished, despite coinciding with two great riders - Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx. This underdog position may have been the reason Poulidor was a favourite of the public.

His main victories are: 6 stages of the Tour de France between 1962 and 1974, the Vuelta a España in 1964 (and 4 stages between 1964 and 1967), Milan-San Remo in 1961, the French National Championship in 1961, the Flèche Wallone in 1963, the Grand Prix des Nations in 1963, the Dauphiné-Libéré in 1966 and 1969, Paris-Nice in 1972 and 1973, the Criterium National in 1964, 1966, 1968, 1971 and 1972, the Super Prestige Pernod Trophy in 1964, the Catalan Week in 1971, the Critérium des As in 1972, the Grand Prix du Midi Libre in 1973. He also finished 3 times second at the Tour de France (1964, 1965 and 1974) and 5 times third (1962, 1966, 1969, 1972 and 1976) and also one time second in the Vuelta (1965).
