2She was the very first voice actress for Betty Boop, debuting in the cartoon short Dizzy Dishes (1930). She was hired because she sounded like entertainer Helen Kane, for whom the character was based. Hines and several other actress voiced Betty until Mae Questel took over the role in 1931. When Questel, who was just beginning to raise a family, refused to move with the Fleischer Studios staff from New York City to Miami, Florida, Hines was hired to replace Questel in both the Betty Boop and Popeye series in 1938.
3Married for a time to animator, cartoon writer and voice specialist Jack Mercer (1910-1984), who voiced "Popeye" opposite her "Olive Oyl" in the late 30s and early 40s.
4Provided the popular voices of flapper-era "Betty Boop" and Popeye's gal "Olive Oyl" in vintage Max Fleischer cartoons.
