James Hugh Loden (born May 1, 1929), known professionally as Sonny James, is an American country music singer and songwriter best known for his 1957 hit, "Young Love". Dubbed the Southern Gentleman, James had 72 country and pop chart hits from 1953 to 1983, including a five-year streak of 16 straight among his 23 No. 1 hits. Twenty-one of his albums reached the country top ten from 1964 to 1976. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. James is currently retired and lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

He started out performing with his family on a weekly radio show on WMSD-AM in Muscle Shoals. That led to paying gigs for the family across the South, as well as radio shows in Birmingham and Memphis. He was sent to Korea as part of the Alabama Army National Guard in 1950.

Had a long string of top-10 hit singles on Billboard magazine's country singles chart between 1953 and 1977. Included in that string were 21 #1 singles -- 16 of those coming in an uninterrupted string between that began with his 1967 hit, "I'll Never Find Another You" and ended with 1971's "Here Comes Honey Again." His record still stands.
