Daniel Joseph "Rusty" Staub (born April 1, 1944) is an American former Major League Baseball right fielder, designated hitter, and first baseman. He enjoyed a 23-year baseball career with 5 different teams. He was an original member of the Montreal Expos and that team's first star; though the Expos traded him after only 3 years, his enduring popularity led them to retire his number in 1993.

1In 1973 he helped lead The "Miracle" New York Mets to The World Sereis with 15 HRs and 76 RBIs.
2Shorlty after he joined the Mets he suffered a broken hand when being hit by a pitch by Atlanta's pitcher George Stone. Rusty played only 66 games for The Mets in 1972 and the team went into a slide. The following year playing in 151 games with 15 HRS and 76. RBIs , Rusty helped lead The 1973 Miracle Mets to The World Series.
3Wore number 4 when he joined the Mets in 1972 because his familiar number 10 was being worn by catcher Duffy Dyer. Switched back to 10 after Dyer was traded and wore it during the 1975 season and again when he rejoined the Mets in 1981.
4Became one of the premier pinch hitters in baseball during his second tenure with the Mets. Became only the second major leaguer ever to hit a home run before turning 20 and after turning 40. Ty Cobb did it first.
5Acquired by the Mets from the Expos on April 6, 1972 for outfielder Ken Singleton and infielders Tim Foli and Mike Jorgensen. Traded by the Mets to the Tigers along with minor league pitcher Bill Laxton on December 12, 1975 for pitcher Mickey Lolich and outfielder Billy Baldwin. Rejoined the Mets in 1981 and remained with them until 1985, when he retired.
