Cedar Anthony Walton, Jr. (January 17, 1934 – August 19, 2013) was an American hard bop jazz pianist. He came to prominence as a member of drummer Art Blakey's band before establishing a long career as a bandleader and composer. Several of his compositions have become jazz standards, including "Mosaic", "Bolivia", "Holy Land," "Mode for Joe" and "Ugetsu", also known as "Fantasy in D".
He served in the Army in the mid-1950s, and then settled in New York. There, he worked with several artists, including Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Beginning in the 1970s, he led the Eastern Rebellion, an ensemble that lasted for more than two decades. He was also a composer, with tunes such as "Bolivia," "Mosaic" and "Ugetsu" becoming modern-day classics.
