The daughter of an Irish playwright, John Coulter, and his Canadian wife Olive, also a writer, Clare was enrolled in a theater school in England at the age of nine when her family moved to London.

During her impressive 30-year career, Coulter has accumulated a long list of credits, both on TV and in films, but her main work has been on the stages of Toronto's leading small-theater venues.
