Chloe Mitchell (née Katherine Tina Valentine) is a fictional character from the American CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. Introduced by former executive producer Edward J. Scott as the daughter of the Chancellor family maid Esther Valentine (Kate Linder), the character was born onscreen during the episode that aired July 30, 1990. The role of Kate was portrayed by twins Darla and Sandra Greer until 1991. Upon her brief return in 1994, child actress Danielle Ryah played the role. On February 6, 2008, executive producer Maria Arena Bell introduced a character named Chloe Mitchell, played by former All My Children actress Elizabeth Hendrickson. That August, Chloe was revealed to be Kate, having legally changed her name after years away, growing up in boarding school. Now an integral part of the cast, Hendrickson was upgraded from recurring to contract status.Immediately upon her arrival on the show, Chloe was characterized as a manipulative "bad girl" by Soap Opera Digest. While the pairing of Chloe and Billy has been popular, Sara Bibel of Xfinity heavily criticized the romance between Chloe and Chance for mellowing the character out, wanting the "sassy" Chloe back.
