Star SignPisces
1[on Sid Caesar] He was a saxophonist but had a sense of memory - where you pick up something and mime it. We wanted to do a funny sketch with it. Sid pretended to open up a jar of olives in his hand. So, without knowing it, he screwed the lid back on and put it down on the floor. That's the greatest sense memory Iive ever seen.
2[on Steve Martin] He's one of my favorite people in the world because he's a cool cat. He looks like an accountant, but he is one of the most tangential thinkers. He thinks in a way that nobody else thinks. He has a brilliant mind, putting things together that don't go together, and make you laugh. He's one of the great creative forces we have today.
3Inviting people to laugh with you while you are laughing at yourself is a good thing to do. You may be the fool but you're the fool in charge.
4I'm a charming coward; I fight with words.
1Is the last surviving cast member of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.".
2Romance (1930) with Greta Garbo is the writer-director's favorite film.
3His mother, Bessie (Mathias), was a Romanian Jewish immigrant, and his father, Irving Reiner, was an Austrian Jewish immigrant.
4Four of his movies were nominated for AFI's 100 Years...100 Laughs: Oh, God! (1977), The Jerk (1979), The Man with Two Brains (1983) and All of Me (1984). "The Jerk" made the list at #89.
5On The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien (2009) Reiner disclosed to Conan that he'd been a guest on Johnny Carson's TV talk show no fewer than 47 times. It was Reiner's first appearance on Conan. [December 2009]
6Father-in-law of Michele Singer and Maud Winchester.
7Former father-in-law of Penny Marshall.
8He was awarded The Annual Kennedy Centre Mark Twain Prize for Comedy.
9Served in the Army in 1942 and was trained as a radio operator. He later was assigned to Maurice Evans' Special Entertainment Unit, which included Werner Klemperer, and toured the South Pacific as a comedian in GI reviews.
10Made a best-selling album with Mel Brooks called "2000 Years with Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks" which earned a Grammy nomination and ignited Carl's writing career.
11His father was a watchmaker.
12Inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame and, in 2000, was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for Comedy by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
13Is the 1980 recipient of the prestigious Connor Award given by the brothers of the Phi Alpha Tau fraternity based out of Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. He is also an honorary brother of the fraternity.
14Portrayed Rob Petrie in his 1959 television pilot "Head of the Family" which eventually became the basis for The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961).
15Father of Rob Reiner, Sylivia Ann Reiner and Lucas Reiner.
