Was put on trial twice for masterminding The Wonderland Murders, the infamous 1981 Laurel Canyon quadruple murder case, in 1990 and 1991. The first trial ended in a hung jury (11-1 to convict), and the second trial ended in a full acquittal. In 2000, he was indicted in Federal Courts under the RICO statute, and as part of a plea deal admitted to bribery of the lone holdout juror in 1990, and to conspiracy in the Laurel Canyon murder case.

In the early 1980s, he was the biggest nightclub owner in Hollywood. Classic venues like the Seven Seas and The Starwood were among his clubs. He Started his empire with a simple hot dog stand in the late 1950s.
