The film was directed by the Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme.The daughter of noted filmmaker Sidney Lumet and journalist Gail Lumet Buckley, and granddaughter of Lena Horne, she began her career in acting, turning only recently to screenwriting.She was married to actor Bobby Cannavale from 1994–2003, they had a son. She married - but is currently separated from - Alexander Weinstein and they have a daughter.
